The first flat in a student’s life marks an important step. This 24 m2 apartment in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, close to Guimar, Le Corbusier and Mallet Stevens, was designed to allow Duncan to make a smooth transition from family life to his future adult life, just a stone’s throw from his preparatory school. The character of the place has been preserved with its stucco cornice and mouldings on the walls, but the rooms have been redistributed. The bedroom has been installed in the alcove that was used as a shower room with toilet, the old kitchen has been opened onto the living room and has been subdivided to accommodate the new bathroom. A half wall allows the library and the entrance to be accommodated at the same time. The choice of colours and different floor coverings helps to visually delimit the different spaces. The family furniture provides the final touch and offers its benevolent presence for this new beginning.
