Charlotte’s home — 35m2 duplex

Paris 4e, 2020

In a magnificent 18th century mansion in the Marais, Charlotte offered herself a duplex pied-à-terre under the roofs, bathed in light but in need of complete renovation. We organised the space around the two levels to give it the character of a small house perched in the sky. Everything has been thought out so that Charlotte, who is both a student and an actress, can easily live in this place and receive her friends while preserving a corner for herself. On the ground floor, the large entrance hall, with its floor tiles saved from destruction, is decorated with a theatrical red décor on the dressing room doors. It opens onto the living room and the kitchen thanks to an antique window. At the far end is the staircase leading to the first floor with its intimate spaces: the study, the bedroom and the bathroom. Every nook and cranny has been used for storage. In the living room, the bench has been placed under the staircase and can be transformed into an extra bed. In the kitchen, the upper cupboards are hidden behind the wall so that they can be forgotten, and the back kitchen offers a bonus linen room.
Imperfect materials, soft colours, a mix of designer and vintage furniture, and simple, graphic fabrics personalise Charlotte’s flat with simplicity. When you open the windows, the cry of the seagulls nesting in the courtyard gives a feeling of being elsewhere.
